Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS)

 

India is home to a variety of healing practices. Earlier, MBBS was considered as the only means to cure diseases, disorders etc, but with the advent of parallel medical science like `Homeopathy` and `Ayurveda`, these courses gained a great impetus. The Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) is a five and a half year course, which includes internship.

Further studies:
After the completion of the BHMS course, the candidate can pursue a Postgraduate Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine & Surgery.

Future prospects:
After the completion of the BHMS course, an individual can pursue a career in the following fields:
·  Can work as a private practitioner.
·  Opportunity to work as faculty in Medical Institutes.

Eligibility for the course:
The eligibility for the course is plus two or equivalent level examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.

Entrance Tests:
Admission to the BHMS is based on merit. In some states there is a joint entrance exam for BHMS along with the MBBS and BDS tests.

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery

 

After completion of HSC examinations, a student may either opt for B.Sc (Bachelor of Science), B.E (Bachelor of Engineering) or MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery), depending upon the outcome of their results.
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery are the two degrees awarded after a course of undergraduate study in medicine and surgery. The duration of the course is four years within which the students are expected to complete their internship.

Options available:
In the MBBS course, the student is taught the following subjects:   Physiology ,  Biochemistry ,  Pathology,  Pharmacy ,  Microbiology,  Forensic Medicine,  Medicine,  Surgery,  Pediatrics,  Gynecology,  Ophthalmology ,  Internship (the MBBS degree is offered to the student only after successful completion of the Internship).

Further studies:
After the completion of MBBS, an individual can pursue the following courses:  MS ,  MD

Future prospects:
After completion of MBBS, the individual would be known as a general physician and would be conferred with the prefix of `Dr`. However, now-a-days Specialization has now become a pre-requisite.

Eligibility for the course:
Only students from the science stream at +2 level (XI and XII) are eligible for the MBBS course. The scores aquired in PCB combination (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) is considered as one of the parameter for admissions in MBBS course.

Entrance Tests:
Students are admitted on the basis of Commom Entrance Test (CET).
